Every number in the estimator is a published price from October 2026, linked below. The low total adds up the cheapest price for each line you pick, and the high total the most expensive.

What gets added
- Card reader, $329 to $399: Cantaloupe Engage6 to Nayax VPOS Touch7. Smart coolers take cards already, so the estimator drops this line for them. Readers also carry a monthly fee and a cut of each sale; the profit calculator handles those.
- Freight, $160 to $990: shipping charges on eBay listings5. Dealers quote it separately.
- City registration, $38 to $59: San Diego9 charges $34 and San Francisco8 $55, each plus a $4 state fee.
- Health permit, $98.50 to $743, only if the machine holds refrigerated food: San Diego County11 charges $98.50 per 10 machines, and San Francisco10 $273 plus a $470 application.
- LLC, $890 in the first year: $70 to file and $20 for the Statement of Information at the Secretary of State12, and $800 in franchise tax to the Franchise Tax Board13. It is optional.
- General liability insurance, $442 a year: Insureon’s14 median for vending operators.
A seller’s permit from the CDTFA is free, so it has no line. The California permits guide has the details on every fee.
